Ellis Island may not be as popular an attraction as the Statue of Liberty, but it is an extremely important part of the history of the United States of America. This island served as the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to enter the country between 1892 and 1954 and realize their dream. The island represents the stories of the people who went to the ends of the Earth in search of a better life and provide for their families.
The National Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island stands as a living testimony to the story and dreams of the American people. Housed inside a former immigration complex, this fascinating museum tells the story of the trials and triumphs of 12 million immigrants through photographs, historic records, and heirlooms. Walk through the Great Hall, baggage room, and restored dormitories that celebrate and honor the migrant journey.
The Statue of Liberty Museum tells the story of Lady Liberty’s legacy through three interactive galleries – Immersive Theatre, Inspiration Gallery, and Engagement Gallery. The Immersive Theatre is a multimedia experience that tells the story of the sculpture and the ideals it represents. The Engagement Gallery gives an insight into the process of constructing the statue while the Inspiration Gallery allows visitors to document their visit to the museum. Check out the Roof Deck for stunning views of the statue and the New York Harbor.
Designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, the statue’s stone pedestal is half the height of the entire monument offering breathtaking panoramic views of the harbor. You can either take the elevator or climb 215 steps to get to the top. Don’t miss out on visiting the Crown after for limited but stunning views of Brooklyn. Access to both the pedestal and the crown is limited. So, make sure to book your tickets in advance.
